In: Newsletter On: Monday, October 20, 2014

On 6 Sept 2014, the first Collaboratory event held by HKSS took place at J Residence, Wan Chai, aimed to develop innovative solutions to tackle identified social objectives, such as economic, environmental and educational issues of the city. A group of participants from various backgrounds joined the event and discussed on the topic of “Towards a sustainable Hong Kong”.

The Collaboratory Event was moderated by our CEO, Dr Lianne Lam.

HKSS is proud to be the first organization in Hong Kong to implement collaboratory as a method of discussion in Asia. Endorsed by Dr. Katrin Muff, Dean of Business School Lausanne, Switzerland, the collaboratory is organized in a format of focus group discussion. It involves a circular space that is open to concerned stakeholders who will meet on equal terms to discuss on given trans-disciplinary issues. The greatest benefit of a collaboratory is that it’s able to develop solutions for problems raised in a process of engagement that is driven by challenges.

Rich and constructive dialogues were developed by our participants during the Collaboratory.

Engaged with brainstorming on what a sustainable Hong Kong might mean, which is followed by a visioning phase to imagine Hong Kong as a utopia, the topic was successfully closed by 4 constructive prototypes: 1) To apply the power of celebrities to better drive charitable projects; 2) To implement more incentive-based government policies; 3) To diversify the secondary curriculums for talent development optimization; 4) To further develop local tourism resources and promote eco-tourism.
