HKSS was delighted to join the “Red Event” organized by the Gübelin Academy to learn the beauty of its new Red collection on 30 Oct 2014. Participants were excited to take a close look at the exquisitely crafted rubies and red gemstones at first hand and hear those unique stories hidden behind.

Participants were appreciating the gemstones while Gübelin Academy staff introduced their stories.

“Burmese Rubies” or “Pigeon’ Blood Ruby”, which is famous for its exceptional coloring has been long considered as the most desirable red gemstones on the planet. They were finely displayed in the Red Collection and their beauty was appreciated and beloved by participants.

The finest rubies from all over the world were finely displayed and introduced.

Participants learnt about Gubelin’s criteria for pigeon-blood red colour call on ruby: (1) The hue of the stone must be ranging from pure red to red with a minute purplish modifier; (2) Pigeon-blood red candidates must possess a saturated colour and medium tone with high transparency and homogeneous colour distribution; (3) The stones must be of untreated and natural good quality without eye-visible opaque or dark inclusions – only a few, small eye-visible fractures are allowed. It is also interesting to note that Gübelin Gem Lab gave no restriction on the origin of stones, but no rubies from outside Burma fulfill the above criteria.
