HKSS was grateful to partner with SOW Asia to host the event- “Stories at PMQ: How sustainability matters to designers?” at PMQ on 25 Nov 2014. The event was attended by over 40 designers and social entrepreneurs. Both local and international designers were invited to share their innovative and sustainable products, ranging from handcrafted home decoration, upcycling accessories, fabric art and stitched paper products.

Participants were touring around Stitch Paperie at PMQ and they were very interested in the innovative design products.
The event was first started by the sharing of Phoebe Lam, Co-founder of Stitch Paperie. Stitching on paper illustrates the idea of "connecting with each other". Her mission is to merge traditional embroidery art into innovative designs and influence people to live with love and happiness. Our second speaker, Sharon Vipond, Founder of Knots & Strokes shared her experience in starting her own social enterprise. Sharon’s emphasis is to empower marginalized women who are engaged in creative enterprise by providing international market access for their products. Her artwork products have a strong supporty for ethical consumption and environmental sustainability.

Passionate designers were sharing their upcycled products.
The event is then followed by the sharing of Cassandra Postema, Founder of Emi & Eve. Cassandra founded Emi & Eve after she was inspired by the hard work of a bomb recycling family in Cambodia. Their products are mainly made from recycled exploded remnants of war, while the clutches themselves are made by workshops employing women with disabilities. Our last speaker, Debbie Leung, Founder of Hand-made by Debbie Leung is a fibre artist. Our participants were fascinated by her hand made collection with very fine craftsmanship incorporating tradition, culture and contemporary design. Debbie strongly believes fashion can be a sustainable practice that is culturally and socially responsible. Natural dye, zero wastage and up-cycled materials are adopted in her collection.
